Happy Spring from The Deloraines

Happy Spring from The Deloraines
The Deloraines at the 2007 Walk of Hope

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

We have recorded 7 cover tunes that, for the band, provides a representative sample of the kind of material we offer in a live performance. The tunes were all recorded in a "live-off-the-floor" format at TA2 sound and music, engineered by Dave Clarke. Vocal tracks were added after. The recording was essentially completed in one day with some further vocal "touch-ups" completed in a few hours the following week. Essentially, the band wanted a "live" sound for this purpose and we believe we have captured that. The new songs recorded in May, and posted on soundcloud, myspace and facebook this month are: Fox on the Run - Bill-rhythm guitar, lead vocal, Malcolm-lead guitar, back-up vocal, Richard-bass, Steve-drums, back-up vocal, Warner-banjo,lead vocal Please, Please Me - Bill-rhythm guitar, back-up vocal, Malcolm-electric guitar, Richard-bass, Steve-drums, lead vocal, Warner-lead guitar,back-up vocal Take it Easy - Bill-rhythm guitar, lead vocal, Malcolm-lead guitar, Richard-bass, Steve-drums, back-up vocal, Warner-banjo,back-up vocal Nadine - Bill-rhythm guitar, lead vocal, Malcolm-electric guitar, Richard-bass, Steve-drums, Warner-electric guitar, back-up vocal Handle with Care - Bill-rhythm guitar, lead vocal, Malcolm-electric guitar, back-up vocal, Richard-bass, Steve-drums, lead vocal, Warner-12 string guitar, back-up vocal Brown-eyed Girl - Bill-rhythm guitar, back-up vocal, Malcolm-lead guitar, back-up vocal, Richard-bass, Steve-drums, back-up vocal, Warner-electric guitar, lead vocal Drift Away - Bill-rhythm guitar, lead vocal, Malcolm-electric guitar (organ setting), Richard-bass, Steve-drums, Warner-lead guitar, back-up vocal Our soundcloud page also has a number of tunes recorded in 2002. OOPS - 2 1/2 years since the last update

The good news is that The Deloraines has continued to be active during this time and has continued to perform 12 to 20 times a year. In some ways the lack of communication has been due to significant life events. Since the last update, Warner and Beth prepared for retirement (from their day jobs) and squeezed in a month long tour of Newfoundland and Labrador. Sadly, Beth was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer late in 2010 and passed away in June of 2011. 2012 marks a return to the studio for the band and some new tunes will be posted on our myspace page (www.myspace.com/deloraines)in the next few weeks.

OMG - six months since the last post!!!!!

Well, it's not like we haven't been a bit busy. Cool gigs in the fall. Bill & Warner backed Heinz Klein and Roger Ellis at the Queen West Arts Crawl. The band also performed at the Toronto Good Life Marathon from a prime location adjacent to the Sunnyside bathing pavillion. We played a fundraiser for the Doctors Lions Club with the proceeds going to CNIB Low Vision services on October 30. This gig featured the band doing three costume changes as we advanced each set by a decade - from the 50's to Woodstock. If you were there and took some pics, please send then to deloraines@gmail.com.

It's December and we are at the start of a 2 week run of 4 gigs. We'll try to blog again before summer. Happy winter all!!!

Speaking of music, Beth and Warner of The Deloraines contributed to the recent recording of our musical friend, Chris Rawlings. Check out his CD at www.chrisrawlings.ca

Also, May will probably see the release of the debut StillSoul CD, Guess The Way It Goes www.myspace.com/stillsoulband featuring Dave Clarke and Jeff Lurie, one generation removed from The Deloraines.

Happy 2009 from THE DELORAINES

After a very busy December, THE DELORAINES are kicking back, contemplating new material and looking for some gigging opportunities. So, if you have a work colleague or family member who is having a significant birthday, or better still - retiring, and you want some period tunes as a part of the celebration, contact us at deloraines@gmail.com. Planning a different kind of celebration, a fund raiser or a walk-a-thon? Think of us. Gigging within the GTA? - no problem. Farther afield within southern Ontario? - contact us and we'll see if it is feasible.
